How to Ace Your PTDF Scholarship Interview

How to Ace Your PTDF Scholarship Interview

The PTDF interview is the final and most crucial stage in securing the Petroleum Technology Development Fund Scholarship. Shortlisted candidates face a panel that assesses academic readiness, field knowledge, communication skills and research potential. Expect a face-to-face session at a designated centre. You’ll meet three to five experts who will ask questions on your course of study, academic history, statement of purpose or research proposal, and general oil and gas sector topics. Common question themes include: 1) your undergraduate project and key concepts in your field; 2) your proposed research topic (for postgraduate applicants); 3) insights into Nigeria’s oil and gas industry; and 4) personal motivations, career goals and plans to give back to Nigeria. To prepare, review core concepts in your discipline, revisit your application materials (statement of purpose, academic achievements and research plan), stay updated on energy sector trends and rehearse typical interview questions. Dress professionally, maintain good eye contact and answer clearly. Show confidence and genuine passion for contributing to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry to boost your chances of success.

Has anyone tried sharing a memorable case study example to stand out during the PTDF panel session?

Definitely, a concise case story with real impact makes you stand out during the panel.

Case studies alone won't guarantee memorability. Better share personal insights and genuine passion instead of relying on a borrowed example.

They say communication skills matter most, but panels might focus more on technical depth than soft skills.

I'm not convinced that rehearsed answers impress the panel—spontaneity signals genuine confidence during a face-to-face interview.

Record yourself answering technical questions aloud and review body language, tone and clarity to pinpoint improvements before your interview day.
