Police Clarify Viral Katsina Video Shows Vigilantes, Not Bandits

Police Clarify Viral Katsina Video Shows Vigilantes, Not Bandits

The Nigeria Police Force says a viral video that appeared to show an officer with armed bandits in Katsina is misleading. The Force explained the men in the clip are vigilantes and registered hunters assisting security operations in Musawa and Matazu LGAs, not bandits. The statement calls claims linking the officer to criminals false, malicious, and capable of causing public anxiety. It warns that anyone spreading such misinformation may face legal consequences. I find it outrageous that community volunteers now carry military-grade weapons like AK-47s. This level of insensitivity by security agencies is unacceptable. If they intend to lie, they should at least make it believable. Even the bystander in the video mistook these men for bandits. This explanation remains far from clear.
