The Department of State Service in Edo State has uncovered a plot by suspected bandits to abduct schoolchildren in Edo North Senatorial District. Intelligence from an intercepted phone call between suspects Bawa and Nuhu revealed they believe targeting students will draw greater government attention and yield larger ransoms after failed attempts on wealthy individuals. On June 4, operatives arrested Emmanuel Momidu (25) near Makeke Secondary School in Makeke Community, Akoko Edo LGA, where he was seen conducting surveillance. The DSS advises deploying security personnel around vulnerable schools, collaborating with local vigilantes and hunters, and intensifying patrols to protect students.
