Kabiru Sokoto Moves Court to Overturn 2013 Terrorism Conviction

Kabiru Umar, known as Kabiru Sokoto, has filed a motion at the Abuja Court of Appeal seeking to quash his 2013 terrorism conviction and life sentence. He argues that years in custody, multiple prison transfers and the deaths of two lawyers delayed his ability to appeal. His legal team says the trial court used the wrong legal provisions and questions the validity of his confessional statement. Sokoto was convicted for withholding information linked to the 2011 Madalla church bombing. He now wants the appellate court to allow a late appeal, overturn the judgment and secure his release.
