Dr. Bala Wunti Defends NNPC Accounts, Dismisses ₦210 Trillion Missing Funds Allegation

Dr. Bala Wunti Defends NNPC Accounts, Dismisses ₦210 Trillion Missing Funds Allegation

Former NAPIMS Group General Manager Dr. Bala Wunti voluntarily appeared before the Senate committee probing NNPC Ltd.’s 2023 financial accounts without waiting for a formal invitation. He used the session to reject rumors of ₦210 trillion missing funds. Wunti explained that the figure arose from double-counting ₦107 trillion in receivables and ₦103 trillion in accrued liabilities. He also clarified that statutory incorporation fees paid to CAC and FIRS amounted to about ₦2.45 billion, not the reported ₦5.8 billion. Senate Committee Chairman Ibrahim Dankwambo confirmed that the panel found no evidence of missing funds. Wunti’s proactive transparency has been praised for reinforcing public trust in NNPC Ltd.

What do you think motivated Dr. Wunti to appear before the Senate committee without waiting for a formal invitation?

True, he wanted to shake things up and show he's in control before anyone could call his bluff.

It's interesting that he dismissed the ₦210 trillion allegation so quickly, but we haven't seen detailed breakdowns of those 2023 accounts yet.

I get the need to protect NNPC's image, but isn't brushing off ₦210 trillion as rumor a bit too dismissive without more evidence?

Make we wait for the official audit report before jumping conclusions, then we go analyze the numbers properly.
