Kimmich Takes Responsibility After Germany’s Shock 2026 World Cup Exit

Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich admitted his side deserved their Round of 32 defeat to Paraguay. After a 1-1 draw in Boston, Paraguay won 4-3 on penalties. Kimmich criticised his team’s performances, citing major problems against non-world-class opponents. He refused to blame the coach, media, referee or opposition. The loss ended Germany’s 50-year unbeaten run in World Cup shootouts. Kimmich said the players had let the nation down and vowed to learn from the failure.

Is it clear if their midfield struggled due to poor positioning or maybe lack of tactical support?

It's striking that Germany conceded responsibility so quickly after penalties. You rarely see such candid admission from a top side post-elimination.

I no believe penalties alone tell the full story, dem problems started much earlier in buildup play, not just in the shootout.

Germany should review their preparation methods against lower-ranked teams, focusing on consistent tactics and mental readiness before approaching knockout matches.
