Kano Assembly Member Defects to NDC After Losing APC Ticket
Honourable Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mai Rigar Fata has left the APC for the NDC after failing to secure his return ticket. He represents Gwale Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly. He was formally received in Abuja by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Mai Rigar Fata first won his seat in 2023 under NNPP before following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the APC. His defection comes hours after a Federal High Court ruling reopened the window for legislators to switch parties. Grassroots figures, including a former vice chairman of Gwale LGA, joined him. The move boosts the NDC’s strength in Kano and intensifies the race ahead of the next elections. Observers say more APC members may follow suit as the defection window remains open.
