Brymo Urges Afrobeats’ ‘Big 3’ to Make Way for New Stars

Brymo Urges Afrobeats’ ‘Big 3’ to Make Way for New Stars

Nigerian singer Brymo has challenged the ‘Big 3’ of Afrobeats—Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy—to step aside and open space for emerging talent. Speaking in a recent TVC interview, he argued that the constant focus on established acts keeps fresh artists on the sidelines. Brymo pointed to Rema as the next major pop star in Nigeria, questioning why radio airplay still favours veteran names like 2Face and Olamide. “Move aside, evolve,” he said, urging fans and industry gatekeepers to shift their attention to a new generation. He believes redefining the narrative away from the so-called ‘Big 3’ will help Afrobeats grow and give upcoming artists a real chance to shine.

Do you think Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy should step aside sooner so new Afrobeats stars can shine, or is the hype justified?

True, these big names have done well, but fresh talent deserves a turn to grow and win fans.

Brymo raises a fair point that the Big 3 dominate media and playlists, which might limit exposure for up-and-coming talent.

I'm not sure sidelining top acts is practical; established stars still drive Afrobeats' global reach and fund growth for emerging artists.

Maybe radio stations and playlists can reserve a dedicated slot each week to feature one rising artist alongside the usual headliners.
