Chris Brown Must Pay $13M After Guard Dog Mauled Ex-Housekeeper
A California jury has ordered American singer Chris Brown to pay $12.9 million to his former housekeeper Maria Avila. The verdict follows a two-week trial over a December 2020 attack by Brown’s 200-pound Caucasian shepherd, Hades, at his Tarzana home. Avila’s sister Patricia was awarded $885,000 for emotional distress, and Maria’s husband received $50,000. The jury found Brown and his company Black Pyramid LLC negligent in the dog’s handling. Brown argued the dog was kept for security and said he warned the housekeepers about it. Testimony suggested he drove off instead of calling 911, fearing a “media circus.” The ruling comes as he launches a U.S. stadium tour with Usher this summer.
