Catholic Youth Association Says Church Must Rise Above Partisan Politics

The Catholic Youth Association of Nigeria says it does not collectively endorse any political party or presidential candidate. It says individual Cardinals, Bishops, priests and laypeople should not be seen as speaking for all Catholics on partisan choices. The group urges Catholics to vote according to conscience after considering the issues, candidates and common good. It also calls on Church leaders to distinguish moral guidance on social issues from their personal political opinions. According to the association, the Church should remain a unifying voice for Nigerians of every political affiliation, while promoting peace, justice, charity and human dignity.
