Edo Rep Urges Peace as Ijaw-Benin Dispute Over Oil Community Deepens

House of Representatives member Omosede Igbinedion has appealed for calm amid rising tension between Ijaw and Benin communities over the ownership of Gelegelegbene, an oil-producing community in Ovia North East LGA of Edo State. She urged both sides to avoid actions that could trigger violence, saying dialogue and mutual understanding are needed to protect lives and property. Igbinedion said she expects Governor Monday Okpebholo to address the situation, while warning that individuals attempting to heighten tensions should not be allowed to undermine peaceful coexistence.
