Academics Demand Full Accounting of ₦16.6bn SEDC Funds
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors has urged the South East Development Commission to publicly justify the ₦16.6 billion released since its inauguration in February 2025. They warned that a reported ₦153 million rent for a one-bedroom liaison office in Abuja raises serious questions about financial prudence. SEDC was created to tackle decades of infrastructural neglect and accelerate growth across the five South-East states. More than a year on, there is little evidence of projects matching the large fund allocations. FOSAD calls on the Managing Director and state governors to publish a detailed breakdown of all funds received and spent. They also want independent probes by the National Assembly and anti-corruption agencies to ensure scrutiny without fear or favour. The group stresses that transparency is a constitutional duty and warns that selective accountability undermines the fight against corruption and public confidence in young leaders.
