Samson Adamu Named CAF Acting General Secretary

Samson Adamu Named CAF Acting General Secretary

The Confederation of African Football has appointed Nigeria’s Samson Adamu as Acting General Secretary, according to reports. He succeeds Veron Mosengo-Omba of the DR Congo, who stepped down to pursue his national federation’s presidency. CAF President Patrice Motsepe is set to confirm the appointment at a press conference in Cairo today. Adamu, currently CAF’s Director of Competitions, has earned respect for overseeing logistics at major tournaments such as the Africa Cup of Nations, the CAF Champions League, and the CAF Confederation Cup. He is the son of Amos Adamu, a former FIFA Executive Committee member who faced a ban in 2010.

Honestly, I doubt he'll turn CAF upside down so quickly. Better to watch his first moves before predicting major shifts.

It's interesting that Adamu steps in just as Mosengo-Omba leaves to focus on his national federation ambitions.

I'm not convinced acting appointments do much without a clear roadmap from the top leadership.
