LAWMA Cancels Licences of Underperforming Waste Contractors and Reassigns Routes

LAWMA Cancels Licences of Underperforming Waste Contractors and Reassigns Routes

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has withdrawn licences of several Private Sector Participation operators after an operational review found they did not meet service standards. The move aims to protect public health and enhance environmental sustainability. Key operators affected include Kenny JPS in Igando-Ikotun, Clean Craft Nig Limited in Isheri-Oshun, Doveroost Ltd in Eti-Osa West, Dewayls in Ijegun-Emure, and Pesjoy Ventures in Ejigbo. LAWMA will replace them with better-equipped firms to maintain consistent waste collection. To address rapid urban growth, LAWMA has realigned routes in high-volume areas. Existing operators retain part of their areas while new contractors join to ensure broader, more efficient coverage. Residents are urged to cooperate with LAWMA-accredited operators to support the authority’s drive for accountability and continuous monitoring.

What criteria did LAWMA use to judge waste contractors as underperforming before cancelling their licences?

Could you clarify which performance metrics you'd like details on—like collection rates, service frequency, or overall compliance?

That's curious—would've thought those performance standards would be shared upfront. Maybe LAWMA's holding onto the specifics for now.

The licence withdrawals expose gaps in contractor performance tracking and suggest LAWMA's review mechanisms weren't stringent enough until now.

I dey worry say this move fit create service gaps if new contractors no ready for sudden route takeover.

LAWMA should set up clear performance benchmarks with regular audits and open community reporting channels to prevent future service lapses.
