Ondo Police Detain Fashion Designer for Alleged Rape of 17-Year-Old Apprentice
The Ondo State Police Command arrested a 32-year-old fashion designer for allegedly raping his 17-year-old apprentice in Akure. The suspect, identified as Jacob Joseph, is accused of forcing her to drink strong alcohol before the assault at his shop in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church complex. A complaint was lodged by the girl’s father on April 22, 2026. The victim was taken for medical examination and the suspect was arrested hours later. The case has been transferred to the Gender-Based Violence Unit and will be charged to court after investigation. The apprentice says she was told to return to the shop after hours for “compulsory night duty.” She alleges Joseph made her drink multiple alcoholic beverages until she passed out. She woke up in his home, bleeding and traumatised. Her parents promptly reported the ordeal to police, leading to his arrest.
