Four Killed in Suspected Herders Ambush in Agatu, Benue
A fresh attack by suspected armed herders left four people dead in Aila Odugheho, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. A local resident said the victims were walking along the road to a nearby community when they were ambushed. The deceased have been identified as Ochefije Elijah Ojema, Igojuju Husaini, Odiya Ochowehi and Ochoyoda Adejo. The Agatu LGA chairman confirmed the killings and explained that robust security measures have forced herders to adopt ambush tactics. He said clearance operations are ongoing with police and local vigilantes to flush out the attackers. The state police public relations officer said she has not yet received a formal report. In a separate incident last week, gunmen killed five people, including a traditional ruler, in Olegabulu community of the same LGA.
