Ibom Air: Jet A1 Fuel Hike Pushes Cost per Flight from ₦2.1m to ₦7.6m

Nigeria’s domestic airlines are under pressure as the cost of Jet A1 fuel surges. Ibom Air reports that average fueling expenses jumped from ₦2.1 million in January to about ₦7.6 million per flight by late April, a rise of over 350% in just seven weeks. Despite operating one of the most fuel-efficient fleets locally, the airline says it has absorbed these losses to avoid passing the full burden to passengers. The shortage and high price follow global tensions and disrupted supply chains, with Dangote Refinery supplying most local demand. Ibom Air warns that continued fuel pricing at this level is unsustainable. It urges fuel marketers to review their pricing to prevent further flight disruptions, capacity cuts, or potential shutdowns across the domestic aviation sector.
