Inside Alleged $30 Billion Loot Scheme: How Aso Rock’s Chief of Staff Tried to Seize Billions and 66 Properties
On March 15, Segun Olatunji, editor of FirstNews, was abducted by soldiers from his Lagos home and held for two weeks. He says his detention was linked to an investigation revealing President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, allegedly attempting to redirect $30 billion and 66 choice properties. Special investigator Jim Obazee traced the assets to former Buhari aide Tunde Sabiu Yusuf. He also uncovered plots by the Aso Rock cabal to buy seized banks and starve Obazee’s team of funds. FIJ obtained documents suggesting Gbajabiamila personally met with Sabiu, urged him to sideline Obazee, and offered to distribute 80% of the recovered loot among top officials. A coalition of 259 civil society groups is now urging President Tinubu to defend Obazee’s mandate and halt any interference. They warn that meddling in the special investigator’s work could undermine Nigeria’s credibility in recovering looted public funds.
