Ogun Labour Unites at May Day: Demand Pension Overhaul and N70,000 Minimum Wage

Ogun Labour Unites at May Day: Demand Pension Overhaul and N70,000 Minimum Wage

At the 2026 International Workers’ Day celebration in Ogun State, labour leaders raised urgent calls for pension reform and improved welfare. The NLC chairman urged a full overhaul of the Contributory Pension Scheme and immediate payment of outstanding deductions and gratuities to retirees. The TUC chairman pressed for the swift implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage and measures to control inflation and fuel prices. Both unions rejected net salary payments, insisting on gross salary structures and settlement of leave allowance arrears. They also named insecurity as a threat to productivity and worker safety. In response, the deputy governor announced a N10,000 monthly transport allowance, a weekly day off for public servants, and clearance of N79.9 billion in pension liabilities. The administration pledged continued dialogue and commitment to worker welfare.
