Akume Brokers Peace Between Rival APC Factions in Benue
George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has mediated a truce between divided APC groups in Benue State. The factions had been locked in a leadership struggle since the 2023 elections. At a crucial stakeholders’ meeting, party leaders agreed to set aside long-standing grievances and work together to strengthen the APC’s structure. Key disagreements between Governor Hyacinth Alia and other party members were formally resolved. As part of the reconciliation plan, Akume proposed automatic tickets for current officeholders to limit internal contests and build loyalty. This framework is seen as a critical step in consolidating the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Political observers believe the renewed unity will boost the APC’s competitiveness in Benue and provide a stable platform for future governance.
