Lebanon Says 11 Killed in Israeli Strikes as Ceasefire Tensions Rise
Lebanese authorities say 11 people were killed in Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon, among the deadliest attacks since a June agreement aimed at reducing hostilities. Seven people, including children and women, were reportedly killed when a house sheltering displaced families was hit near Ansar. Four others were killed and five wounded in later strikes on Deir al-Zahrani, according to Lebanon's health ministry. Israel said the Ansar strike targeted Ali Samir al-Haj Hassan, whom it described as a Hezbollah commander involved in attacks on Israeli soldiers. Lebanese leaders condemned the strikes as violations of the ceasefire framework, while Israel said it would continue acting against threats in the area. The attacks come as Lebanese and Israeli negotiators prepare for another round of talks, with disagreements continuing over Israeli troop withdrawals and Hezbollah's disarmament.
