Iran Offers $30,000 Reward for Killing or Capturing US Soldiers
Iran’s military has announced a reward of $30,000 for anyone who kills or captures and hands over a United States soldier. Army Commander-in-Chief Major General Amir Hatami said the offer followed requests from people seeking to support Iran’s military effort. Hatami said Iranian women who carry out such an action would receive double the reward. He did not state where, when or under what circumstances American personnel could be targeted. The announcement comes amid continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington after months of confrontation, failed peace efforts and intermittent exchanges of fire. The Strait of Hormuz remains a major flashpoint because of its importance to global oil shipments and energy prices.
