New Iron Pipes Restore Water to Abakpa as Enugu Plans Citywide Supply Upgrade

New Iron Pipes Restore Water to Abakpa as Enugu Plans Citywide Supply Upgrade — 1 of 4
1 / 4

The Enugu State Government has begun replacing old asbestos pipelines with high-pressure ductile iron pipes on the Abakpa–Opi Nsukka axis, successfully restoring water supply to homes in Abakpa. Officials confirmed visible flow from newly laid mains, while engineers document and repair minor leaks caused by high pressure. Residents, surprised to see water in their taps after months of buying from vendors, praised the move as a major relief. Many described the development as proof that promises on infrastructure renewal are being kept. Similar restoration and live testing exercises will soon extend to Emene, Idaw River, Agbani Road and other key areas of the metropolis under a performance-driven governance model. The reforms aim to ensure sustainable, equitable water access across all communities in Enugu.
