Police Rescue 10 Passengers After Bandits Attack Jos–Kano Highway Bus; 3 Still Held

Police in Kano State have rescued nine passengers after gunmen attacked a Toyota Hiace bus travelling from Jos to Kano on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The attackers reportedly blocked the road around the Falgore Forest axis in Doguwa Local Government Area and abducted 13 of the 20 passengers. Police operatives responded to a distress call, engaged the gunmen and rescued nine victims. One other passenger later escaped. The rescued passengers are receiving treatment at Doguwa General Hospital and are said to be stable. Three people, including one man and two women, remain in captivity as police intensify search and rescue operations.

Nine people rescued is encouraging, but the report still leaves a worrying gap for the passengers yet to return.

Travellers using that corridor should check current security updates and reconsider nonessential journeys until the situation is clearer.
