Nigeria Security Chiefs Meet US Officials Over CPC Designation

Nigeria’s security delegation, led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, met with United States officials to seek a review of Nigeria’s Country of Particular Concern designation over religious-freedom concerns. Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede and other security chiefs attended the meeting. They presented the government’s account of security reforms, counter-terrorism operations and efforts to protect citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity. The police chief highlighted intelligence sharing, community policing, crime prevention and joint operations with the military. The delegation also cited increased terrorist surrenders in the North-East and called for stronger international support in forensic investigation, cybercrime detection and counter-terrorism. Nigerian officials said the engagement formed part of wider efforts to improve the country’s security record and secure its removal from the CPC list.
