Police Rescue Five Passengers After Benue Kidnap Gun Battle; Nine Still Held

Police in Benue State have rescued five of the 14 passengers abducted from a bus travelling from Enugu to Abuja along the Ankpechi–Omutele axis in Ohimini LGA. The Benue Police Command said the victims were taken on the night of August 13. A coordinated rescue operation early Friday reportedly led to a gun battle with suspected kidnappers and the rescue of five people, including a four-year-old boy. One rescued victim sustained a gunshot injury and is receiving treatment at a medical facility in Otukpo. Nine passengers are still being held, while security operatives continue efforts to secure their release.
