Fulani Association Rejects Plateau Governor’s ‘Shoot-on-Sight’ Farmland Order
A leading Fulani organisation in Plateau State has urged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to withdraw his shoot-on-sight directive against anyone found destroying farmlands. In a statement, the Kautal Pulaaku Fulbe Association warned the order could escalate insecurity and deepen communal mistrust. The group’s president argued it is unfair to target farmers while ignoring attacks on herders, including cattle rustling, poisoning of livestock and violence against innocent herders. They called for consistent enforcement of security measures against all criminal elements, regardless of their background. Highlighting recent losses of life and property, the association appealed for immediate government action to protect both farming and herding communities. It also condemned rising hate speech and tribal incitement, urging equal accountability to promote peace and unity across Plateau State.
