ADC Factional Leaders Reject Mark’s April Convention as Illegal

ADC Factional Leaders Reject Mark’s April Convention as Illegal

At a news conference in Abuja, the factional national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Rep. Leke Abejide declared the April 14 convention called by the David Mark-led group null and void. They argued it defied a March 12 Court of Appeal ruling and lacked Independent National Electoral Commission recognition. The pair pointed out that existing orders from the Federal High Court and Supreme Court barred the gathering. They maintained the rival faction had no authority under the ADC constitution to expel members or hold any official convention. They also accused the Mark-led group of forging signatures and breaching party rules. Bala and Abejide disowned the rival faction as illegitimate and insisted any resolutions from that convention carry no legal weight.

It seems odd that two rival groups within ADC would ignore a Court of Appeal ruling yet still push ahead.

Rather than dismissing the convention, perhaps they should have challenged the ruling through proper intra-party channels first.

ADC leaders need to ensure all decisions align with court directives to avoid further legal setbacks and public confusion.
