Madugu: Why African Teams Are Avoiding Friendlies with Super Falcons

Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu says many African teams are reluctant to schedule friendlies against Nigeria ahead of WAFCON 2026. The Falcons will defend their record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco this July. They have struggled to find competitive warm-up games to sharpen their preparations. Under Madugu, Nigeria remains Africa’s top-ranked women’s national team and climbed to 36th in the April 2026 FIFA rankings. The NFF has approached more than five countries for friendly ties, but according to Madugu none have agreed so far.
