Reimagining Tax Law: Key Insights from the 2026 National Summit

Reimagining Tax Law: Key Insights from the 2026 National Summit — 1 of 4
1 / 4

I am Ibrahim Abdulmumin Ahmad, a law student at Newgate University Minna. I attended the National Tax Law Summit 2026 in Abuja. It was hosted by the International Vice President of WALSA and brought together lawyers, tax experts and students. The keynote speakers shaped the conversation. Hon. Chukwuemeka Eze reviewed Nigeria’s tax structure. Mr. Arome Abu urged us to see taxation as a catalyst for development, not just revenue. The panel discussion was insightful. Experts examined policy gaps, compliance hurdles and institutional inefficiencies. Students from Nasarawa State University also contributed practical perspectives. I believe fair and transparent tax laws are essential for Nigeria’s growth. We need stronger implementation, public trust and ongoing dialogue. Our tax system must drive sustainable national development.

It's interesting that students were included alongside seasoned lawyers; not sure their perspectives really influenced the main panel debates.

I appreciate the emphasis on modernizing tax codes, but I question whether high-level summits truly translate into real policy reforms at the grassroots.

Law students should network early with tax professionals and follow post-summit publications to stay updated on emerging regulations and best practices.
