Gumi Vows He Won’t Be Barred From Ibadan Amid Oyo Abduction Row
Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi says no one can stop him from visiting any part of Nigeria, including Ibadan. He made the statement on his Facebook page, rejecting claims that his trip to Oyo State was driven by “dirty local politics”. Critics had accused him of promoting northern Islamic ideologies and pushing for Sharia law in the state. Gumi clarified that he attended an Ibadan event as a representative of the Coalition of Northern Muslim Ulama, not at the invitation of any South-West Muslim individual or group. His comments come after reports that kidnappers in Oriire Local Government Area demanded the introduction of Sharia law as a condition for releasing their victims.
