Gumi Defends Jingir's Support for Muslim-Muslim Ticket Ahead of 2027
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has defended Sheikh Yahya Jingir over his support for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election. Gumi said Jingir should be excused for what he called an extreme political view, arguing that the Plateau-based cleric lives amid intense anti-Muslim religious prejudice. Jingir had praised President Bola Tinubu's Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2023 and urged Muslims to support a similar arrangement in 2027. Gumi also said religious sentiment is used across political divides to win votes. He urged politicians and religious leaders not to drag religion into Nigeria's politics.
