EFCC Clarifies UUTH Visit, Denies Attempt to Arrest Medical Director
The EFCC has addressed reports of a hostile visit to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. Operatives went to verify a medical report submitted by a fraud suspect under remand. They say they sent two letters in March and April requesting authentication but received no reply from hospital management. When the team followed up in person, staff allegedly locked them inside and pelted them with stones. The commission accused the Chief Medical Director of ordering the gates shut and ignoring police appeals to open them. Despite the ordeal, operatives remained professional and left without disrupting hospital services. The EFCC reminded corporate bodies and the public to cooperate with lawful enquiries, warning that refusal to comply could be seen as criminal obstruction.
