Nigeria Hosts BAGAIA Meeting as West Africa Pushes for Safer Air Travel
Nigeria hosted an extraordinary meeting of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) Board of Directors in Abuja from August 4 to 7, 2026. The meeting focused on improving aircraft accident investigation and aviation safety across West Africa. Officials from BAGAIA, the Banjul Accord Group Secretariat, civil aviation authorities and member states discussed the agency’s finances, member contributions, staffing, operational plans and the implementation of decisions taken by the Council of Ministers. Delegates also elected Engr. Jorge Manuel Rodrigues of Cape Verde as the new chairman of the BAGAIA Board. Member states reaffirmed their commitment to stronger governance, financial sustainability and regional cooperation for safer air travel.
