Madugu Defends Okoronkwo After Missed Pass to Oshoala in Cameroon Defeat
Super Falcons coach Justin Madugu has defended Esther Okoronkwo after her decision to shoot instead of passing to Asisat Oshoala in Nigeria’s 1-0 WAFCON quarter-final loss to Cameroon. Okoronkwo had a late chance in a promising position, with Oshoala appearing better placed for a pass. The opportunity went begging as Nigeria failed to find an equaliser and exited the tournament. Madugu said the decision was made in the heat of the game and rejected claims of a split within the squad. Nigeria will now face South Africa in a play-off as they continue their push for a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
