Ex-Super Eagles Media Officer Slams CAF’s AFCON Ruling as ‘Most Disgraceful Decision’

Ex-Super Eagles Media Officer Slams CAF’s AFCON Ruling as ‘Most Disgraceful Decision’ — 1 of 8
1 / 8

Former Super Eagles media officer Colin Udoh has strongly criticised the Confederation of African Football for stripping Senegal of their AFCON title and awarding it to Morocco. He highlighted that Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 in extra time but briefly left the pitch in protest over a late penalty. CAF’s Appeals Board then declared a forfeit and handed a 3-0 win to Morocco. Udoh challenged CAF’s use of Article 82, arguing that Senegal never abandoned the stadium grounds. He pointed out that FIFA distinguishes between the field of play and the wider stadium. He also stressed that the referee’s decision should be final under FIFA’s Law 5. Udoh called the ruling “unbelievable” and warned it sets African football back decades.

Do you think CAF's ruling to strip Senegal of their AFCON title is fair, given that the team briefly left the pitch in protest?

Chai, I agree! Snatching the title over a little pitch protest feels way too harsh on Senegal.

I'm not so sure calling it 'disgraceful' is fair; rules about leaving the pitch exist for good reason.

It's odd that a match outcome decided on the field got overturned solely because players left the pitch for a short protest.

Slamming CAF's choice as 'most disgraceful' sounds exaggerated when rules about protests are pretty clear in tournament regulations.

Perhaps CAF could improve communication on protest guidelines before matches to avoid confusion and guarantee transparent decisions.
