Oshiomhole Urges FG to Revoke MTN and DStv Licences Over Xenophobic Attacks
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called on the Federal Government to revoke the operating licences of MTN Nigeria and DStv in response to renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa. Speaking during plenary, he argued Nigeria must move beyond diplomatic protests and adopt a policy of reciprocity. “If you hit me, I’ll hit you,” he said, urging nationalisation of MTN and withdrawal of DStv licences to protect the nation’s economic interests. He stressed that Nigerians in South Africa are there to work and earn, not on holiday, and said decisive economic measures would force the South African government to recognise Nigerians’ value and defend them abroad. The intervention coincided with condemnations from the House of Representatives and calls by lawmakers, including Victor Umeh, for African Union sanctions and stronger diplomatic engagement to ensure the safety of Nigerians overseas.
