Courtroom Shock as Victor Giwa’s Lawyer Abruptly Withdraws Before Hearing
During the resumed hearing in the FCT High Court, defence counsel Farouk Akambi left the courtroom without notice, leaving his client, Abuja lawyer Victor Giwa, without representation in the alleged forgery case. Prosecution counsel Wisdom Madaki informed Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie that Akambi declined to review the response to Giwa’s application for the release of his international passport. Madaki argued the withdrawal appeared intended to stall proceedings, despite both defence teams having been served with affidavits filed on May 22, 2026. Giwa then told the court he would represent himself under his constitutional right. The judge ruled that Akambi, still formally on record, must either follow proper withdrawal procedures or explain his absence. The matter was adjourned to June 10 for continuation of the trial.
