Tinubu’s N68 Trillion Budget vs Buhari’s N21 Trillion: Where Did the Subsidy Savings Go?

I’m puzzled how Tinubu’s 2026 budget of N68.32 trillion—over three times Buhari’s N21.83 trillion 2022 budget—will work without fuel subsidy. Buhari managed an election year and subsidy with a far smaller budget, yet Tinubu promised savings to cut spending. No one can account for where those subsidy funds went. I believe true progress demands a revolution to dismantle this political system. We need radical decentralization, or even disintegration, of structures inherited from colonial rule. Until Nigerians take this stand, corruption will deepen and ordinary citizens will keep bearing the cost.

With Tinubu's budget more than triple Buhari's, where exactly did the promised subsidy savings vanish in the new N68.32 trillion plan?

True, that jump in budget makes zero sense. We deserve a clear breakdown of subsidy savings.

Which budget lines now include the expected subsidy savings allocation?

It's odd that Buhari managed both subsidy and election spending under N22 trillion, yet this administration projects over N68 trillion without clear subsidy figures.

Maybe some savings cover other fiscal gaps, but claiming zero subsidy costs seems unrealistic without a detailed breakdown from treasury sources.

A timely audit of subsidy allocations and release schedules could reveal where the N68 trillion budget truly allocates its fuel savings.
