Barbados Pledges Backing for Air Peace’s Historic Lagos–Barbados Route
Barbados has reaffirmed its support for Air Peace’s new direct flight service linking Lagos and Bridgetown. The government promises to work with tourism boards, trade institutions and diplomatic missions to boost passenger traffic and ensure the route’s long-term success. Air Peace began commercial flights on May 24, 2026, using a Boeing 777 that carried over 284 passengers on its inaugural journey. The launch was celebrated at a media event in Barbados, attended by senior ministers, CARICOM representatives, diplomatic envoys and Afreximbank officials. The President’s Minister of Tourism described the route as a historic milestone strengthening ties between Africa and the Caribbean. He emphasised that Barbados will actively promote the service rather than remain a passive beneficiary. Afreximbank’s Acting COO highlighted the importance of reliable air links for deeper economic integration. Meanwhile, Air Peace’s commercial chief thanked all stakeholders and noted the airline’s fleet expansion with a new Boeing 737-800 NG, which has just arrived in Lagos to enhance domestic and regional operations.
