Ogbomoso Teachers March for Release of Kidnapped Pupils and Staff
Teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, took to the streets to protest the abduction of schoolchildren and colleagues. They carried placards and sang solidarity songs, demanding urgent government action and the immediate release of the victims. The demonstration followed a recent attack in Oriire Local Government Area, where armed men invaded two schools, killed a teacher, and abducted several students, staff members, and a nursing mother. Videos from captivity show a distressed mother and a school principal appealing tearfully for help. In response, the state government says it has sealed escape routes near the national park and mobilised the army, police, Amotekun Corps, and local hunters. Coordinated rescue operations are ongoing as families and educators await word on the abductees’ safety.
