Is Peter Obi’s Latest Move Political Suicide for 2027?

I love Peter Obi, but his latest move might be political suicide for the 2027 election. With the NDC and ADC splitting about 16 million opposition votes, the APC could easily secure a second term unless court cases force ADC’s deregistration or a leadership change. By 2031, power traditionally shifts to the North, effectively sidelining Obi and setting the stage for Kwankwaso and Atiku. Supporters risking rent-seeking behaviour could be left empty-handed. To avoid a repeat of 2023’s disputed results, Obi and the NDC must rebuild the opposition coalition. A written single-term agreement with ADC or a unified ticket under the NDC could keep their votes intact. Atiku might also consider shelving his 2027 bid to back a stronger, united front against the APC.
