Kuwait Limits Domestic Worker Recruitment to 10 Countries, Bars 27 Others

Kuwait’s Interior Ministry has issued a new directive restricting its domestic worker recruitment to just 10 approved countries. Recruitment from 27 nations, including Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda, is now prohibited under updated labour regulations. The policy follows recommendations from several government bodies, such as the Foreign Affairs and Health ministries. Approved sources include South Africa, the Philippines, India and Senegal (male workers only). Recruitment processes will run through Kuwait’s regional governorates. The circular reached residency affairs departments and service centres two days ago and is now in effect.

How do you think this new Kuwaiti regulation will affect families depending on domestic workers from Nigeria or other barred countries?

Are you asking how households will cope without workers from those newly barred countries?

I'm not convinced this ban will improve service quality when fewer applicant countries might drive up recruiter costs.

Recruitment agencies should explore partnerships with approved countries while lobbying Kuwaiti authorities to reconsider barred nations.
