Chioma Ajunwa: From Super Falcons Pioneer to Olympic Gold Medalist
Chioma Ajunwa made history as the first Nigerian woman to star in both the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games. She debuted with the Super Falcons at the inaugural 1991 Women’s World Cup in China and helped establish Nigeria’s reputation in African women’s football. After switching to athletics, Ajunwa’s long jump talent shone through. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, she claimed gold to become Nigeria’s first Olympic champion and the first Black African woman to win a field event.
