Governor Makinde and Olubadan Reconcile as Ibadan Elders Broker Peace

Governor Makinde and Olubadan Reconcile as Ibadan Elders Broker Peace

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes says the disagreement between Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has been peacefully settled. Council President Ajeniyi Ajewole explained that Ibadan elders used traditional methods to resolve the clash. He said outside attempts to worsen the issue failed. Ajewole dismissed rumours of plans to remove the governor or the monarch. He compared their bond to that of a father and son and warned troublemakers to desist. He praised Makinde’s infrastructure projects, timely salary payments, job creation and improved security. He also commended the Olubadan’s efforts against land grabbing and to boost the local economy. The council remains committed to peace and unity in Ibadan.

While the elders' role is admirable, I'm not convinced this approach will prevent future disagreements at the political level.

Local communities should document these traditional resolutions as a blueprint for resolving similar leadership conflicts statewide.
