Ex-Minister Uche Nnaji Still Drawing Salaries Nine Months After Ouster, Pocketing Over ₦125m

An exclusive review of federal payroll records shows former Science and Technology minister Uche Nnaji has continued to collect N1.1 million in basic pay plus allowances since leaving office in October 2025. Officials estimate he has illegally drawn at least ₦125 million, and possibly up to ₦300 million, highlighting a major lapse in Nigeria’s IPPIS system. Nnaji resigned after revelations of forged NYSC and university certificates. Despite criminal charges and a court warrant for his arrest, his name remains active on the payroll and payments are still going into his First Bank account. Anti-corruption experts urge a full audit of the IPPIS platform to reconcile payments against actual staff records. The federal government says it will investigate how his profile was never removed and hold responsible officials to account.

I have to admit, the payroll data paints a damning picture of nine more months of unwarranted salary payouts.

Local lawmakers should demand an audit of all post-tenure payments to prevent similar abuses going forward.
