Tuchel Questions Phil Foden’s World Cup Spot After Underwhelming Performances

Tuchel Questions Phil Foden’s World Cup Spot After Underwhelming Performances — 1 of 3
1 / 3

England manager Thomas Tuchel has warned that Phil Foden is not guaranteed a place in the 2026 World Cup squad. Despite impressive training sessions, the 25-year-old failed to shine in recent friendlies against Uruguay and Japan. Tuchel pointed to Foden’s limited playing time at Manchester City as a key factor. With players like Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze in contention, Foden’s match fitness has become a concern. Since mid-January, Foden has started only twice in the Premier League and was unused in both legs of City’s Champions League exit. Tuchel insists current form will decide his final squad, leaving Foden with weeks to prove his worth.

Criticizing Foden after just two friendlies ignores his limited match minutes under Tuchel's plans.

He needs regular club starts and sharper impact off the bench to convince Tuchel before the World Cup selection.
