Lessons from Zamfara: Why APC Must Rethink Bauchi Primaries Now
I remember how APC’s unresolved divisions in Zamfara State cost the party its 2019 election victories. The Supreme Court nullified all APC wins and handed power to the runners-up because no valid primaries were held. Today, similar warning signs are emerging in Bauchi. The party postponed its May primaries amid factional disputes. Some aspirants went public, others lobbied in secret, and no consensus was ever formally signed. Despite claims that voting took place, no evidence—photos, videos or delegate lists—has surfaced. Yet the party announced results showing an unvetted candidate winning by a landslide. APC risks repeating the Zamfara mistake. I urge the leadership to suspend this flawed process and organise a transparent primary or a legally binding consensus that can withstand any court challenge.
