Taiwo Oyedele Takes Charge as Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy

Taiwo Oyedele Takes Charge as Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy

Taiwo Oyedele formally assumed office as Nigeria’s Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy after receiving the handover brief from outgoing Minister Wale Edun on 23 April 2026. The transition follows President Tinubu’s directive to ensure a smooth change of leadership. During his tenure, Mr. Edun advanced key fiscal reforms to stabilise the economy, boost revenue performance, and deepen structural changes under the current administration. Mr. Oyedele praised those efforts and thanked President Tinubu for trusting him with the mandate to build on that progress. Permanent Secretaries Raymond Omachi and Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma reaffirmed the ministry staff’s full support for the new minister. Mr. Oyedele pledged to work closely with the team to deliver measurable outcomes aligned with national economic priorities, emphasising continuity in fiscal discipline and service delivery.
