Abuja Police Detain Four Officers Over N53,000 Extortion of ICPC Chairman
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested four officers for allegedly extorting N53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, Dr. Musa Aliyu, during an unauthorised stop-and-search in Abuja. Investigations revealed the officers abandoned their posts to set up an illegal checkpoint at Banex, Wuse. They stopped the ICPC chief, forced him to withdraw cash via a POS machine and divided the money among themselves. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi condemned the men as a criminal syndicate and vowed they would face severe punishment. He reminded the public that officers are no longer permitted to search mobile phones during patrols and urged residents to report any misconduct immediately.
